Plaza Bolívar marks the centre of Tunja's historical core. The square's vast proportions reveal the city's important status in colonial times. It is surrounded by a network of streets forming a grid dotted with churches and old houses. The whole of this small colonial area can be explored on foot, but with the altitude and steep streets, you might have to take it slowly.
