The Michelin Guide's review
Nestling among the poplar trees, the village of Soganli remains largely unspoilt. The same is true of the isolated valley in which it lies, with its fanciful landscapes of steep basalt cliffs and phantasmagorical human- or animal-shaped rocks. The tall peaks and pyramids are dotted with holes, and used as dovecotes. People no longer come here to see the tulips so adored by a sultan in the 18C; instead, they now visit its unusual underground cities, such as Kaymakli, and the peaceful troglodyte monasteries and churches of the region.
