The Michelin Guide's review
The Dutch Fort Frederik Hendrik (1630) monitored the sugar trade on the Rio Capibaribe, which connected the port to the engenhos (plantations). Its nickname, Forte das Cinco Pontas (due to its layout in a five-pointed star), has endured despite being reworked by the Portuguese in 1677: it is now rectangular shaped. The Museu da Cidade do Recife (Museum of the City of Recife) has set up here and presents iconographic documents retracing the history of the town (including Frans Post reproductions and photos of Recife in the early 20C).
