The Michelin Guide's review
Fortaleza, a fortress built by order of the King of Portugal in 1767 to protect Paranaguá Bay, waged a terrible battle against an English ship in 1850, which is remembered as the "Battle of the Cormorant". One can still admire the fortress and its cannons today, on the east coast of the largest part of the island, which is practically deserted.
