Nottingham Castle has been the setting for numerous historical events including the 1831 riots by workers who set fire to it. The buildings that survived now house a museum and art gallery containing Bronze Age exhibits, Greek and Roman antiquities, 16C Italian, 17C Flemish and French and 18C to 20C English paintings. An exhibition also showcases fine examples of medieval Nottingham alabaster.
