The Michelin Guide's review
A fine beach makes this village a pleasant and popular resort. The overgrown ruins of a castle built in 1305 by Richard of Burgo - known as the Red Earl for his ruddy complexion - stand on the cliffs (north), overlooking the narrow entrance of Lough Foyle, opposite Magilligan Point. The castle was captured by Edward Bruce in 1316 but fell to the O'Donnells in the 14C. In 1608 it was granted to sir Arthur Chichester.
