On the threshold of the Vanoise region, this valley offering exceptional skiing owes much of its renown to its resorts: St-Martin-de-Belleville, Les Menuires and Val-Thorens. But it also has many characterful villages, high-altitude lakes and splendid scenery. Many walks offer fine views over the valley, the Vanoise Mont Blans and the Écrins: the Croix Jean-Claude (2 092 m), Crève-Tête (2 342 m), the Pointe de la Masse and the circuit des Lacs (2 804 m).
