Mellerstain House

Well worth the diversions
Civil and military monument
The Michelin Guide's review
The solemnly simple exterior comprises a central section designed by Robert Adam; this austere crenelated part contrasts with the two wings, which were built by his father William in 1725, and which have a certain charm. The castle is famous, in particular, for its astonishing detail and the intricacy of the interiors, such as the remarkable ceilings by Robert Adam. Also worthy of note are the fireplaces, wood panelling and furniture, as well as the ornately decorated library.
