The Michelin Guide's review
This is one of the oldest Jewish cemeteries of Europe. Behind Remu'h Synagogue (16C), named after an eminent Talmudist scholar, it was founded in 1551 and it was here that the leading members of the Jewish community were buried until its closure. After being ransacked by the Nazis, over 700 tombs, some of immense artistic value, were excavated in 1959-1960 and carefully restored and replaced.
