The Michelin Guide's review
This imposing six-storey keep dating from the 13C wave of Norman construction stands on a rocky bluff, partially eroded by the lake. It rapidly fell into the hands of the O'Flahertys, then of Cromwell's troops who used it to protect the countryside around Galway. The interior layout is classical in that the main hall is on the top floor.
