The early-14C Burg Forchtenstein, which stands in a lovely natural site, was given its present appearance by the Esterházy family in the 17C. The castle houses the Esterházy princes' collections, the most outstanding exhibits of which (17C and 18C) are displayed in the Treasure Chamber (clocks and automatons, silverware, Chinese ornaments, porcelain, library), the Picture Gallery and, above all, the Armoury.
