The park around the disused steel works is now a recreational area entirely given over to the residents of Duisburg. When the factory was shut down in 1985, the desire to preserve the legacy of this site led to an unusual and original project that involved knocking down the walls and introducing a brand new vocation to the industrial premises, which are now devoted to music, film, cultural events and sports and leisure activities.
