The Michelin Guide's review
Occupying a caldera 2,000m above sea level, this plateau encircled by mountains is worth visiting as much for the vestiges of the kingdom of Sanjaya, as for the mysterious atmosphere that prevails in the dawn mist. Make an early start to explore the eight small Hindu temples (out of the original 200) that are dedicated to Shiva and the oldest in Java (c. 750), but also the hot bubbling springs of Kawah Sikidang and the changing colours of Lake Telega Warna.
