The "Diputación" or provincial assembly now occupies the 18C former Convento de la Merced, which was founded in the 13C. The impressive façade has a large central section and two lower wings, all of which is painted to resemble marble. The main white marble doorway is framed by Solomonic columns, a pediment and two bell towers.
