From Chimayó, you can head towards Taos following Route 76. This road passes through a string of villages which are off the tourist trail, including Truchas (9mi from Chimayó), which has fine views of the Rockies in the distance and is popular with artists looking for a quiet, simple life. Six miles further on, Las Trampas church (1760) is a remarkable example of an adobe church from the Spanish period.
