A young Beauvais woman, Jeanne Laisné, made her name in 1472 by arming herself with an axe and helping repel an attack on the city. She went down in history as Jeanne Hachette, and a statue was erected in her honour, opposite the town hall, the restored 18C façade of which is attractively illuminated at night.
