Wat Phra Si Sanphet
Michelin Guide
Well worth the diversions
Religious monument
The Michelin Guide's review
Wat Phra Si Sanphet, built within the grounds of the royal palace, served as the chapel for the kings of Ayutthaya. Little remains of the temple complex apart from the three large chedi, which are characteristic of art in Ayutthaya, with their Khmer influence, imposing dimensions, lotus flower capitals, and proliferation and finesse of stucco ornamentation. Nearby, the Wihan Phra Mongkhon Bophit houses a highly venerated 15C seated Buddha.
