Santa Bárbara Castle played a key role in the city's history. It occupies a strategic site on the summit of Mount Bencantil, where several citadels have stood since Antiquity. Its origins date back to the Muslim era (10C). Of the three enclosures, Plaza de la Torreta (where the lift drops you off), the first, boasts the oldest buildings. From the upper terrace, you will enjoy a panoramic view over the town. The museum (free of charge) charts the town's history.
