The wetland area of Kis-Balaton is part of the National Park of Upper Balaton. Its 3 500ha, covered with reeds and dotted with shallow stretches of water, are home to some 250 species of birds. They can be observed from two observation areas on Kányavári Sziget (island of Kányavár), reached over a wooden bridge. To the south of the park, the town of Zalakaros boasts excellent tourist and thermal spa facilities.
