The Michelin Guide's review
Created in 1761 by the French East India Company, the garden, previously known as the "Jardin du Roy", housed plants that had just been introduced to the island. Take a refreshing walk around its alleys and basins, in the shade of the Caribbean royal palms, and see rare species such as talipots, which bloom every 50 to 100 years, a hevea - the only one on the island -, a gourd tree and a sausage tree. Note also the busts of Pierre Poivre and Joseph Hubert, who introduced fruit and spices on the island.
