The Michelin Guide's review
A causeway supported by round columns leads to the massive black sandstone temple, built to resemble Mount Meru, the home of the gods. The pyramid-shaped building made up of three terraces was erected in the mid-11C by Udayadityavarman II (1050-1066) and originally devoted to Shiva before being converted to Theravada Buddhism. Pay particular attention to the lovely bas-reliefs carved upon the gopura (doors) and to the restored sleeping Buddha on the western side.
