This museum is housed in a fine 18C building (St Jacobs Gasthuis). Its collections focus on contemporary art after 1945, predominantly Systematic Art, Pop Art and new figurative art. Particularly rich in works from the 1948-60 period, the museum is renowned for having acquired work by the CoBrA group in the 1950s, a time when this art was not much admired. As a result, the museum boasts one of the oldest and largest collections of its type (almost 300 paintings, gouache works and drawings).
