The Michelin Guide's review
Mt Washington is the highest point in New England (altitude 1 917m) with a sub-polar climate which sometimes gives rise to extreme conditions, such as the strongest winds recorded on earth (231mph) in 1934. The group of buildings on top of the mountain is known as "the city in the clouds". The mountaintop is accessible via the Auto Road, four strenuous hiking trails, and the Mount Washington Cog Railway.
