Santa Maria da Feira Castle

Interesting
Civil and military monument
The Michelin Guide's review
Built in the 11C, this castle was rebuilt in the 15C by the local lord, Fernão Pereira, whose coat of arms you can still see above the door. It is an interesting example of Portuguese military architecture in the Gothic era. A quadrangular keep with four tall square towers with pepperpot roofs looms over a surrounding wall fortified with machicolations and reinforced to the east by a barbican.
