The Michelin Guide's review
These are the ruins of the ancient Etruscan town of Rusellae, founded in the 7C BC and colonised by the Romans in 294 BC. Excavations have revealed a stone wall that is more than 3km in length, dating from the 6C to the 2C BC. The remains of dwellings and workshops are also visible, together with ruins that date from the Roman period, including an amphitheatre, and imperial forum, with the legendary city of Vetulonia as a backdrop.
