From the parking lot, numerous self-guided trails wind through the woods and past granite quarries to the northern tip of Pigeon Cove. Vantage points on the rocky shore provide extensive views across Ipswich Bay to the south, and as far as Maine to the north. The Halibut Point State Park headquarters incorporates a concrete World War II watchtower.
