Centro is a concentration of eclectic architecture and urbanism, where Neoclassical, colonial, Art deco and Rio's modern skyscrapers rub shoulders in narrow streets and wide avenues. Bustling with business men and women during the week, but deserted at the weekends, the district is gradually acquiring a cultural vocation, in particular, with the inauguration of the museums of Praça Mauá, MAR (Museu de Arte do Rio) and the Museu do Amanhã.
