Crowned by an imposing dome weighing 630t, the bronze doors of the Igreja de N. S. da Candelária open into a splendid Baroque and Neoclassical interior. Standing on the site of a sanctuary founded in 1634, it was built in 1775 by a naval captain who had survived a shipwreck and is one of the most beautiful churches in Rio.
