Following five years of restoration work, this museum reopened in 2019 with a new layout and new, more contextual approach. The exhibits come from the monumental buildings around the Piazza dei Miracoli. Of particular interest are artists such as Bonanno Pisano (who designed the famous San Ranieri door in the right transept of the cathedral), Nicola and Giovanni Pisano (busts in the loggia of the baptistry), Tino di Camaino and Nino Pisano, both of whom sculpted tombs in the buildings. The sculpted Virgin in the treasury is also by Giovanni Pisano.
