An iconic feature of St Germain des Prés, the Embâcle fountain by Charles Daudelain (1984) stands on Place du Québec. Its bronze cladding seems to part and spout forth jets of water. In 1998, a number of fashion designers and jewellers established luxury boutiques here, heralding the renaissance of this district and the end of its literary connections, although many publishers still remain.
