The Michelin Guide's review
This is one of the most-visited places of pilgrimage for the country's Muslims. The founder of the city is said to have died here, at the spot where a spring once flowed. At the top of the hill is now a mausoleum where a mullah says prayers for visiting pilgrims. They scale the hill on foot, stopping off at the museum set up in the caves or sliding on their stomachs along the smooth wide stones said to promote fertility. Such practices would seem to take more from shamanism than from Islam.
