The Michelin Guide's review
Facing the Alameda, a square planted with large trees, Oaxaca Cathedral was begun in 1535 and completed only in the 18C, further to a series of earthquakes. It is distinguished by its squat form. Flanked by two hefty bell towers, its lovely Baroque façade has a profusion of plant motifs and bas-reliefs. With a basilical layout, the inside has noteworthy features that include the stalls of coro behind the altar, the imposing seven-section 17C organ and a collection of 19C paintings.
