The Michelin Guide's review
Named after Denis-Benjamin Viger, an affluent landowner in the mid 19C, this street was once inhabited by wealthy Francophones who built charming Victorian homes here. Although the area's economy suffered when the University of Montreal moved to the north slope of Mt Royal, the district regained its appeal in the 1960s when cafés, cosy restaurants, small boutiques and bookshops proliferated, drawing a young crowd back to the area.
