This is the first of the five dams (Miranda, Picote, Bemposta, Aldeadávila, Saucelle) built along the international course of the Douro. Built in a rocky gorge, it is 80m high and 263m long along the top. From a boat cruise upstream from the dam, in the steep gorges of the Douro, you have a chance of spotting rare birds of prey.
