The Michelin Guide's review
The Manchester Cotton Exchange reigned for many years over this trade, the source of the city's prosperity. Inaugurated in 1874, the building was damaged twice - by German bombings (1940) and the 1996 IRA attack. Since 1976, the building has been home to the Royal Exchange Theatre. Visitors can see the Great Hall, with its dome. The price of cotton on the exchange's last ever day of trading is still shown on the raised board.
