The Michelin Guide's review
This house was built in 1866 by the Orientalist Lord Leighton (1830-1896). He was a Victorian painter and President of the Royal Academy and a fervent defender of eclectic beauty. The house is a wonderful reflection of Victorian style in its layout and its furnishings. Note especially the exotic Arab Hall which boasts a flagstone floor with exuberant floral motifs (by William de Morgan) and a fountain on a mosaic floor. The museum exhibits a number of a works by Leighton, as well as some of his personal possessions.
