Guillemins train station, designed by Santiago Calatrava, is an immaculate ambitious and airy structure mixing glass, steel and concrete. A shopping mall has been built under the platforms to lead to the tracks; above, the trains are covered by a spectacular giant canopy called the "cap" (casquette). Passengers waiting for their train bask in the natural light that enters through the huge glass roof. The vast esplanade in front of the station, currently rather empty, is being developed.
