The Michelin Guide's review
The novelist Ernest Hemingway (1889-1961), a legendary Key West figure, wrote some of his finest works on the island. Hemingway and his second wife, Pauline, used to winter here in the late 1920s, and in 1931 they purchased this elegant coral-rock home. In a studio above the carriage house, he wrote such classics as Death in the Afternoon (1932) and For Whom the Bell Tolls (1940).
