Church São Francisco
Michelin Guide
Religious monument
The Michelin Guide's review
This church, built in the early 15C, was modified in the 17C. Only the portal and chevet has preserved their original Gothic character. Be sure to see the Baroque gilt wood altar decorated with 18C azulejos and the fine granite recumbent statue of Dona Constança de Noronha. The sacristy has an attractive coffered ceiling decorated with gargoyles. The chapter house, which looks onto the Renaissance cloister, has a beautiful Gothic grate.
