Civil and military monument
The Michelin Guide's review
Situated to the north of Trieste, this castle built in 1860 stands at the tip of a promontory. It was intended for Archduke Maximilian of Austria, executed in Mexico in 1867, and his wife Princess Charlotte of Belgium, who died insane. The furniture and interior decoration are original. The lovely terraced grounds are home to numerous species of plants, artificial lakes and a delightful Italianate garden.
