Château de Grignan
Michelin Guide
Well worth the diversions
Civil and military monument
The Michelin Guide's review
Standing on a rocky hillock, the medieval château of the Adhémar de Monteil family was remodelled several times, before gaining its current appearance in the early 20C. You will see the southern Renaissance façade and the Cour du Puits (Well Court), which opens onto a terrace enclosed by a Gothic gallery and Renaissance wings. Inside, you can visit the apartment of the Marquise de Sévigné (writer, 1626-96) and the grand gallery adorned with remarkable Louis XIII furniture (in particular, two magnificent cabinets) and Aubusson tapestries.
