The Michelin Guide's review
The huge outline of this former volcano, which peaks at 1,731m/5,679ft, stands on the coast of the Sea of Japan. Seen from afar, it is reminiscent of Mount Fuji. In winter, it attracts skiers and snowboarders, who make way for hikers in the spring. The climb to the top from Daisen-ji Temple takes around 5hr (round trip). The entire region is part of Daisen-Oki National Park and in autumn the forest is a riot of colour. Mount Daisen truly lives up to its reputation of the "mountain of four seasons".
