Augustusburg Castle
Michelin Guide
Well worth the diversions
Civil and military monument
The Michelin Guide's review
This Rococo castle (1725-1768) with its French-style garden was built by Schlaun and Cuvilliés for Clemens August, the archbishop and elector of Cologne. Inside, the staircase by Balthasar Neumann, embellished with caryatids and atlantes, is of particular interest, as are the new great apartments, especially the audience chamber.
