The giant unfinished statue of the Buddha of Sasseruwa cannot be said to be easy to get to, hidden as it is deep in the countryside. Sometimes said to be an inferior trial-run for the colossus at Avukana, the statue surveys a pretty clearing in the heart of the jungle at the foot of a cliff. In the vicinity, you can explore caves occupied since the 2C by hermits, some of which contain fine artwork and sculpture, including a reclining Buddha.
