Sehel Island
Michelin Guide
Well worth the diversions
Natural site
The Michelin Guide's review
In Ancient Egypt, this island played the role of gateway to Nubia. It is one of a group of small granitic islands stranded in the rapids of the Nile (the First Cataract). A granitic hill made up of boulders with inscriptions invoking the divinities of the cataracts rises up on the island. One in particular, the so-called Famine Stele, evokes the famine the country suffered under Djeser. A warm welcome from the Nubian community awaits you.
