The Michelin Guide's review
These gardens in the suburbs of Ashford village boast more than 4,000 species, including a great many subtropical plants. Attracted by the banks of the River Vartry and their mild climate, Dublin industrialist Edward Walpole designed them in 1860 in a bid to create a romantic garden following the precepts of William Robinson with plants from all over the world.
