The Michelin Guide's review
Along with the Maurienne, the Tarentaise is one of the two great valleys of Savoie carved out by prehistoric glaciers, and home to major transport roads with Italy. Ample and wide, the valley, paradise for skiers and hikers, is crossed by narrow gorges and hemmed by ridges. It is also livestock breeding country, notably Tarine cattle, whose distinctive red coat cannot be missed in the alpine meadows.
